Purple Community is grateful to announce our next Angel of the quarter – Rachel Decker! Rachel has been involved with Van Andel Institute’s Purple Community longer than any of our current staff! She began volunteering several years ago through her employer at the time and helped with local high school Purple Games that benefitted VAI. “As my work led me in another direction, my passion to share VAI’s mission never left my heart.”
With a passion for music and as well as VAI’s mission, Rachel has been a reliable resource specifically this past year with our Country Kicks Cancer series! Her energy and eagerness to take the lead and ensure Purple Community has a great presence at this concert series is so helpful to our team.
“I love the CKC events. Not a concert goes by where my heartstrings aren’t pulled in directions that are unimaginable. From concertgoers sharing their stories to sharing information on research that’s being done or volunteer opportunities. What a great story to share!”
Aside from volunteering with Purple Community, Rachel keeps busy by spending time with her husband and daughter, visiting the Fulton Street Farmer’s Market multiple times a week, volunteering at Circle Theater, and fulfilling her creative drive with sewing, painting and repurposing furniture.
“Too many family members and friends have battled or are battling some of the devastating diseases that are benefiting from VAI’s research efforts. I believe 100% in the organization, love that it’s LOCAL and bringing in worldwide talent,” Rachel said.
Thanks for your continued support over the years Rachel, we are lucky to have you!
