The Purple Community Cabinet is a group of community leaders who are passionate about fighting cancer and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. Cabinet members serve as ambassadors and advocates for Purple Community and Van Andel Institute (VAI) by helping create new events and partnerships, and volunteering throughout the year. The cabinet’s executive leadership team has continued to flourish as we welcome new faces in 2018 — we’re thrilled to announce our new co-chair, Alyssa Nance!
Like so many others, Alyssa has been touched by cancer within her family, as well as many loved ones that surround her. “I love the work Van Andel Institute does and I am passionate about creating more awareness within the community. I am excited to spend more of my time with Purple Community and help bring hope to those struggling with cancer and neurodegenerative diseases,” Alyssa said.
Alyssa is a 2010 Calvin College alumnus and holds a Bachelor’s degree in business. Throughout her four years at Calvin, Alyssa was on the swim team and served two seasons as captain. Her love for swimming led her to be Grand Rapids Christian High School’s girl’s swim teach head coach for five years. In addition to being part of the Purple Community Cabinet, Alyssa is a member of the Institute’s JBoard and serves on the JBoard Advisory Council.
In her professional life, Alyssa is a Field Marketing Analyst for State Farm. She has been in her current role for the past year and has worked with the states of Michigan and Ohio on marketing strategies. Prior to her marketing role with State Farm, she was a Senior Agency Field Specialist in the West Michigan area working with more than 80 agents on company deployments and agents sales processes. She got her start with State Farm in 2009 when she sold insurance as a licensed team member for agent Marsha Veenstra.
Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Alyssa and her husband Chris are involved at Ada Bible Church. They devote their free time to cheering on the maize and blue, spending time with family, running, biking, swimming and boating.
Thank you for your support of Van Andel Institute and Purple Community, Alyssa, we cannot wait to see what we accomplish under your leadership!
