On your mark, get set, GO!
We kicked off marathon training season with our Team Hope Kick Off event on Wednesday, June 19. With the Chicago and New York City marathons coming up, it was a great opportunity for our runners to connect, get excited for their upcoming races and meet their fellow teammates!
Running for Team Hope is about more than a marathon (which, by the way, is no small thing) — it is about HOPE. When you run with Team Hope, you are running to support the groundbreaking cancer and Parkinson’s disease research happening at Van Andel Institute. These Team Hope runners are doing more than logging loads of miles, they are providing HOPE to those who have faced a cancer or Parkinson’s disease journey.
“Running a marathon is tough and training for a marathon is grueling. But I am running for Team Hope because I know I am helping to bring hope to people who are fighting something much more difficult,” Team Hope Chicago Marathon Runner McKenzie Hollern Southerington said. “I am looking forward to crossing that finish line and eating some good Chicago-style pizza!”
Our Bank of America Chicago Marathon runners will hit the streets on Sunday, Oct. 13. A few short weeks later, our Team Hope runners will head to the Big Apple for the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 3. We are thrilled to be able to walk alongside and cheer on these dedicated individuals as they embark on this journey of a lifetime.
