There is no doubt our Purple Community team has one of the most rewarding jobs in the world! We get to see people in our community go above and beyond their call to action. We watch their brains churn and create phenomenal heart-filled events with the warmest of intentions.
Our event hosts want to make a difference and that does nothing but inspire us and spread HOPE amongst our organization and the communities these events take place in. Each and every day I find myself more and more inspired by the phenomenal people who fund cancer, Parkinson’s, and neurodegenerative disease research at Van Andel Institute.
Our friend Joe Rudnick is one of these inspiring people. He is the owner of Tapistry Brewing Company in Bridgman, Michigan. Joe uses his business to fulfill a passion of his – raising funds for cancer research.
“My father was merely fifty-nine years young when a glioblsatoma took away the function of his right side and ultimately his life only a month from his surgery to remove the cancer. Since that day, I realized as a business owner that there are effective ways to utilize a network and to make a difference.”

Joe has been a part of our Hops for Hope program for the last three years. Each year he works with Imperial Beverage Representative, Hans Heikkinen, to recruit bars and restaurants to join him in the fight against cancer. Joe selects one of Tapistry’s top selling beers and each location donates $1.00 for each pint of Tapistry beer sold for a month long promotion.
This December, Joe and Hans have brought on NINE different locations who are featuring Tapistry’s Reactor as their giveback beer of the month:
Tapistry Brewing Company – Bridgman, MI
Blue Water Grill – Grand Rapids, MI
Bostwick Lake Inn – Rockford, MI
Cottage Bar – Grand Rapids, MI
J. Gardella’s Tavern – Grand Rapids, MI
The Meanwhile Bar – Grand Rapids, MI
O’Tooles – Grand Rapids, MI
The Pyramid Scheme – Grand Rapids, MI
Slow’s Bar BQ – Grand Rapids, MI
We are so grateful for each location’s willingness to spread HOPE through our program and are especially grateful for Joe and his vision for Tapistry’s partnership.
Be sure to print out your Hops for Hope map and spread a little hope for thousands of cancer patients and their families. There is a cure out there but we can’t do it without your generosity!
