Please note: As of December 2021, updated guidelines from the New York City Marathon’s organizing body, New York Road Runners, require all runners taking part in the 2022 Marathon to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. Running a marathon is an incredible undertaking in and of itself and requires a tremendous amount of physical and mental endurance and motivation. Why not give yourself an added boost of motivation by running in honor or memory of someone in your life that who has faced a cancer or Parkinson’s disease journey?
When you sign up to run with our Van Andel Institute Marathon Team on behalf of Van Andel Institute (VAI), we will be with you every step of the way! You will have access to fitness training, an amazing team of supporters and the best part? 100% of every dollar you raise will go directly to cancer and Parkinson’s disease research happening at VAI.
The TCS New York City Marathon provides VAI with a very limited number of entries for the race. Because of this limited quantity, we invite you to join our team waitlist so that you can be one of the first to know when our team application window opens. Spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis until our team is sold out.
If you apply to run with our Marathon Team to obtain a FREE GUARANTEED charity entry, your fundraising minimum will be $3,000. Additionally, runners with a guaranteed entry secured on their own may join our team at any time for a $500 fundraising minimum commitment.
There are several different ways to register with our Marathon Team. Please read the registration information below for more details.

NOTE: Van Andel Institute can lobby for more guaranteed entries. If you are not selected for the first round of entries we have available, we will be lobbying for additional spots through the marathon staff and through other charity partners that wish to sell their extra entries. We will work through a wait list process for those interested in one of these additional spots on the team if they become available.
NOTE: You must provide credit card information on the NYC Marathon site. You WILL NOT be charged anything; however this is a requirement to join. Van Andel Institute is covering the cost for the NYC Marathon entry for you ($295 savings)!

Athletes who wish to bypass the TCS New York City Marathon registration process and secure a guaranteed entry may join our Van Andel Institute Marathon Team. All participating runners will need to be invited and register for the TCS New York City Marathon through My NYRR by September 16, 2021.
If you choose to guarantee your entry into the race by joining our Marathon Team, you are committing to a required and enforced fundraising minimum of $3,000 for Van Andel Institute by the deadline of October 31, 2021. If this minimum is not met, you will be charged the full amount or balance due to the credit card you provided, and/or not permitted to participate in the TCS New York City Marathon at Van Andel Institute’s discretion.
Please note that this type of guaranteed entry is available on a first come, first serve basis. Van Andel Institute Marathon Team members still need to complete their registration with the TCS New York City Marathon after they register with VAI.
A link to officially register for the marathon will be sent to you shortly after you join our Van Andel Institute Marathon Team. The marathon registration (covered by Van Andel Institute) will be invoiced to VAI at the standard $255 (U.S. Residents; NYRR Members) / $295 (U.S. Residents; Non NYRR Members) / $358 (residents outside of the U.S.) registration fee for entry.
If at any time during your training you become injured or are otherwise unable to participate in the event due to extreme circumstances, you are able to defer your entry to the 2022 race and receive guaranteed entry. If you elect to DEFER your entry to 2022, you may do so, without penalty, if you have achieved your fundraising minimum in the 2021 season. You will be responsible for covering 2022 race registration fees if there are any additional fee increases, but you will not be required to do fundraising again in 2022. Cancellation must be submitted by Saturday, November 6, 2021.
If you are injured or otherwise need to be removed from the team, you may withdraw prior to September 16, 2021. If you are able to find a valid replacement runner approved by Van Andel Institute, you will be released from your fundraising minimum and only held accountable for a $75 registration transfer fee. If you do NOT find a replacement runner for your spot, you will be held to your $3,000 fundraising minimum.
Athletes who secured their own entry into the NYC Marathon are highly encouraged to join our Van Andel Institute Marathon Team through this registration type. The required fundraising commitment for joining our Marathon Team with a “self-secured standard registration” for the marathon is $500.
For either of these registration methods, Van Andel Institute is pleased to offer you a variety of training program options. More details will be available upon official registration for our Marathon Team.
