“My grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This hits home in a heavy way, yet the flip side of that we’re doing something. We’re fighting. We’re not just waiting to find a cure. We’re going to help.”
Ryan is principal of Duncan Lake Middle School in Caledonia, Michigan. Each year, 500 students in his school hold an annual Cancer Walk to raise funds for cancer research at Van Andel Institute.
“It has been a really positive experience. The student organizers change every year, but the same passion and energy remains. As a staff, we see value that our students are learning real life skills. They’re executing a mission of raising money.”
In four years, Duncan Lake students have raised more than $50,000.
“Our goal is very simple: we’re going to raise money for Cancer Walk. And we know 100% of it is going towards cancer research.”
“Come to my school and I’ll show you what our kids are doing. Celebrate with us. We take joy in the fight.”
