I am Abbie Hollern and I am a Van Andel Institute Purple Community intern. I have been involved with Van Andel Institute for a few years; I started as a volunteer and instantly fell in love with the mission of Purple Community and the people who support it. I was so eager to work with the team, and they graciously offered me an opportunity to be an intern! I am fortunate to get to know people in our community who want to make the world a better place by joining the fight against diseases like cancer and Parkinson’s. At Purple Community, I get the opportunity to write our blogs, spend time at our fundraising events, help raise awareness in our community and much more! I feel so proud to be part of a community that I know is working tirelessly to help bring hope to those who need it most!
When I am not interning, you can find me spending time with the children I nanny for. I have been with these children for almost 5 years! In my spare time, I enjoy cycling, painting and shopping on Amazon (probably a bit too much). In winter 2020, I will graduate from Grand Valley State University with a degree in nonprofit and public administration with a focus in community development.
