After hearing about Purple Community through a 2017 Team Hope Chicago Marathon runner, Jessica first volunteered at the 2017 Consumers Credit Union Purple Community 5K and has been active ever since!
“I knew right away that Van Andel institute was an organization that I not only wanted to give back to monetarily, but also be part of by volunteering. I unfortunately know far too much about cancer as both my mom and my dad have had their separate battles to fight. Sadly, my Dad lost his battle to multi-myeloma in 2012, but my mom continues to fight through rounds of chemo and radiation. I’m fairly certain a lot of my stubbornness comes from her!”
Jessica has supported Purple Community at the Maranda Park Parties in the summer, multiple races, the big South Christian football game this past fall (her alma mater), and most actively on our Purple Community cabinet volunteer subcommittee. She offers great perspective from her experiences as a new volunteer and contributes fresh ideas on how to grow our program. Not to mention what a doll she is to work with!
“Since the beginning, I have always looked forward to volunteering at the events. It’s so great to see and meet so many fantastic people that are willing to support and be a part of this overall mission! By giving just a small amount of my time, I am able to help this community fund the hope that someone else’s mom and dad won’t have to battle. That’s why I continue to volunteer!”
