When a love for fashion and a dedication to giving back to your community come together, amazing things can happen, such as the inaugural Duncan Lake Middle School Fashion Show on Friday, April 12! The DLMS Fashion Show will raise funds for the 11th annual Duncan Lake Middle School Cancer Walk which benefits cancer research at Van Andel Institute.
Duncan Lake eighth-grader Holly Barker came up with the plan to host a fashion show and silent auction to help contribute to the groundbreaking research being done at Van Andel Institute. Holly has always been inspired watching other students put on events, and felt it was her time to take charge. “I wanted to help out in a way that was both fun and made an impact on my school and my community,” Holly said.
The fashion show will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at Duncan Lake Middle School. With over 30 models walking and 10 stores donating everything from dresses to casual wear, this is sure to be an event you won’t want to miss. Models range from middle schoolers sporting everyday wear, high schoolers in prom dresses, and even some elementary school principals making their modeling debuts!
Like so many, the mission of Purple Community and Van Andel Institute is personal to Holly after having lost her Opa to cancer. Holly will be wrapping up the show walking beside a cancer survivor who is a student in the Caledonia School System. We hope you can join us at Duncan Lake Middle School on Friday at 6:30 p.m. for their inaugural Fashion Show! Make sure to also mark your calendars for the Duncan Lake Middle School Cancer Walk on May 10, and help these amazing students raise funds for cancer research at Van Andel Institute!
