Happy New Year from Purple Community!

Posted By

We have a few great events coming up that we’d like to clue you in on.

First and foremost the Purple Community 5K is back! Our second annual 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 30. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit cancer and neurodegenerative disease research at Van Andel Institute. It’s a great time to start training for your best race ever, for the best cause ever! Register by visiting the 5K website.

Aquinas College Hockey and Hope College are teaming up for their first ever Hockey Fights Cancer Event on Saturday, Jan. 30. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at Southside Ice Arena in Byron Center, Michigan. Aquinas will be selling T-shirts and hosting a tailgate, with “chuck-a-puck” at intermission and much more. This is a mainly student- focused event; however, it will also be a great family event as many of the players’ families will also be in attendance. Former Aquinas Hockey player Hugh Ingalls and his brother have created a promo video that can be viewed here.

Also, on Jan. 30 is the third annual Bee Brave Chili Cook Off! If you’re looking for a fun way to warm up on a cold winter’s afternoon head to Cascade Winery and Jaden James Brewery. Now in its third year, this event offers participants more than 30 chilies and six wines or beers to sample, along with a souvenir glass. All proceeds benefit Purple Community. You can order tickets in advance here.

Last, but certainly not least, please join us at the fifth annual Grand Rapids Griffins Purple Community Event on Friday, Feb. 19! Planned festivities include a jersey auction, 50/50 raffle and “chuck-a-puck” sponsored by Lake Michigan Credit Union – and the always favorite two dollar beers and hot dogs! Click here to purchase $5 tickets.

There’s always a great line up of Purple Community events so be sure to check our event calendar to stay up-to-date!
