We are overwhelmed by all the support we received for Purple Community and Van Andel Institute throughout February! Because it was such a busy month, we would like to take a moment and appreciate February’s highlights and thank a few of our community partners.
Our #CountryKicksCancer concert series continues to draw large crowds and support from The Intersection and B-93. The concert series has raised over $10,000 for research! We had a blast dancing the night away with Tyler Farr on February 2.
Grand Valley’s D3 Hockey Team hosted their second annual Hockey Fights Cancer game! This incredible team of hockey players raised over $3,000 for cancer research.
Southside Ice Arena and Fox Motors Hockey hosted an entire weekend of Hockey Fights Cancer games! From player pledges and donations to the raffle and silent auction, over $50,000 was raised during this weekend to support cancer research at Van Andel Institute. We cannot thank you enough for your dedication to research, discovery and hope.
A moment of silence for Dave Rue, a beloved hockey official, occurred during Aquinas College’s second annual Hockey Fights Cancer game. This game not only commemorated those who lost their battle to cancer, but also celebrated those who have fought and won. Heather Brininger, mother of Aquinas senior Cal Brininger, and cancer survivor, dropped the puck at the start of the game.
What better way to end the month than with more hockey? A huge thank you goes to the Grand Rapids Griffins for hosting the 6th annual Purple Community Game! Their efforts helped us raise over $31,000 for cancer research.
Thank you to our incredible community, to each and every one of you that have helped Purple Community grow and continue to make a difference by supporting research into cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases at Van Andel Institute. Whether you volunteered or attended an event in February, we cannot thank you enough!
