In 2016 when Erik Wolenberg was presented with the opportunity to join the Purple Community Cabinet, he jumped right in. Since then, Erik has been an incredible advocate, volunteer and cabinet co-chair by helping wherever he is needed. We are thrilled to recognize him as our Quarterly Angel!
Like so many others, Erik has a personal connection to the efforts of Van Andel Institute (VAI) and Purple Community. “I’ve had friends and family members who have battled cancer, but the truth is that every single person is impacted by cancer in one way or another, so that’s why I work to support Purple Community,” Erik said.
As Erik wraps up his third year on the Purple Community Executive Cabinet, he continues to be an inspiration to volunteers and advocates. “Serving on the Purple Community Cabinet has been an honor for me, and I hope to play a small part in growing awareness and supporting fundraising needs for the critical research taking place at VAI.”
As the Purple Community Executive Cabinet Co-Chair, Erik helps raise awareness for our Purple Community events and serves as a helping hand and volunteer.
“I’m very fortunate to have been involved with a number of Purple Community events and celebrations over the years, but my favorites are the 5K Run/Walk and the Griffins game. The Griffins game is also a personal favorite because hockey has been a big part of my life for over three decades, so seeing the Purple Community mission represented and supported on that stage is very fulfilling.”
Why did Erik choose to be involved with Purple Community?
“I love that the Purple Community staff and volunteers make the fight against cancer accessible and engaging for so many people across Michigan and beyond. How cool is it that everyone who gets involved with Purple Community can play a part in finding the cure for cancer or Parkinson’s?!”
We thank Erik for doing his part to help find a cure for cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases. You continue to spread 100 percent HOPE and we are thankful for you!
