Duncan Lake Middle School (DLMS) continues to amaze us with their unwavering support for Purple Community and cancer research at Van Andel Institute! Their 2019 year was no exception with more than $31,000 total funds raised — that is 100 percent HOPE!
This year they had their first DLMS Fashion Show. The idea came from student Holly Barker and it turned into an amazing event! Students and teachers modeled everyday wear and formal wear donated by local retail stores. This event was a shining example of how an idea from one person can make a whole community come together for a common cause.
DLMS also celebrated their 11th year hosting their annual Cancer Walk to raise funds and awareness for Van Andel Institute. It was a day full of fun and HOPE! Students and staff hit the track and walked to honor those who are living with cancer, cancer survivors, and those who have lost their fight to this devastating disease.
The support in the Duncan Lake Community is ongoing and grows stronger each year. We are already looking forward to the 12th Cancer Walk next spring with this amazing community!
