This year marks the 10th anniversary of Duncan Lake Middle School hosting their annual Cancer Walk and it is full of milestones! The DLMS students and staff have been very enthusiastic about finding a cure, having raised over $28,000 this year alone for cancer research and a total of $149,231 over the last ten years! The school also recently received the 2018 Carol Van Andel Angel of Excellence Award.
Duncan Lake Middle School kicked off their Cancer Walk at a school assembly in March, where they had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Patrick Grohar. They learned about the many ways their dollars will go directly back into research currently happening in Dr. Grohar’s lab at VAI.
This year held a newfound importance for the school community, as one of their very own staff members is currently battling cancer. Erin Dean spoke to her students at the kickoff assembly describing what it is like to be battling cancer.
Nothing could stop the energy of this group, not even a little rainy spring weather the day of the Cancer Walk. The students walked and danced their hearts out through the halls of Duncan Lake Middle School, determined to make a difference.
A HUGE thank you to the entire Duncan Lake community. We love partnering with you every year and we are already looking forward to year eleven!
