A Summer on the Green

Posted By

This summer has been full of golf outings for the Purple Community team! We’ve headed to the green to tee off against cancer and Parkinson’s disease a lot this summer, and are excited for more fun as we head into the fall!

In June, Cisco hosted their 5th Annual Cisco Charity Golf Outing Event. We were honored to serve as their charity partner for the event once again! They raised nearly $30,000 for Parkinson’s research in 2017 alone.

On August 11 we headed to The Mines Golf Course for the 6th Annual James H. Bouwhuis Memorial Golf Outing. This outing was founded by Jeremy Bouwhuis in memory of his grandfather James, who battled Alzheimer’s. We absolutely love teaming up with the Bouwhuis family each year, and this past April they became a Leadership Society member at the Carol Van Andel Angel of Excellence award night for raising over $10,000 for VAI over the years. All proceeds from the outing benefit neurodegenerative disease research.

On August 13, we headed to southwest Michigan for the Third Annual Tapistry Brewing Golf Outing! For the past three years Tapistry has hosted business partners, friends and beer lovers in Benton Harbor for their outing and have honored Purple Community as their charity partner. Tapistry has an awesome crew and there’s never a dull moment with them!

On the 28th we are excited to head out to Byron Center for the Railside Golf Outing with a special group of women. This outing is not only on a beautiful course, but it also has fantastic raffle prizes available to participants! If you are interested in helping out with their fundraising efforts, please consider donating a raffle prize.

We will be at two fabulous golf outings in September as well! On September 14 the Eagles For Eric crew will be hosting their annual golf outing, fundraising for Osteosarcoma research at VAI. On September 16 the 11th Annual Michelle Lunn Charity Golf Outing will be taking place. This outing was founded in memory of Michelle Lunn who lost her battle with leukemia in 2007 at the age of 22. The Michelle Lunn HOPE Foundation has already raised over $100,000 for cancer research at VAI!

We greatly appreciate all those who have poured hours of effort into planning these outings and all supporters! All support these golf outings have provided to VAI have been so critical to the amazing research taking place!
