After a 2-1 loss in twelve innings the night before, the West Michigan Whitecaps were seeking redemption on August 2 when they took on the Lake County Captains for what was sure to be an exciting game for fans. With a run early in the first inning, followed by runs in both the fifth and seventh, the Whitecaps claimed victory over the Captains 3-1!
However, the true home-run that night was the infectiously fun atmosphere of Purple Community Night. Fans were dressed head to toe in everything purple to support cancer and neurodegenerative disease research happening at Van Andel Institute.
Taking a look at our stats, Purple Community also saw a major win:
- 1,000 Purple Community Baseballs given to lucky fans
- 11,582 dime dogs sold to guests
- $3,600+ raised in the 50/50 raffle with half donated towards research at VAI
We met so many energetic and passionate fans eager to support the cause and it was truly inspiring to speak with everyone. Thank you to those of you who came out to the ballpark that night, stopped by our table and took wacky photos at our booth. We’d like to give a special thank you to the West Michigan Whitecaps and their team for hosting us, and to Lake Michigan Credit Union for helping to underwrite the evening!
